What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is much more than massage and covers a diverse array of treatment methods to reduce pain and restore function. At North Cork Physiotherapy and Acupuncture Clinic, our chartered physiotherapists are experts in identifying your problems and use a variety of expert techniques to rehabilitate you back to full health. We also believe that prevention is just as important as cure, and offer specialised advice to help you manage and maintain optimal health and fitness.
What conditions are treated?
At North Cork Physiotherapy and Acupuncture Clinic we specialise in musculoskeletal Physiotherapy – that is, any problem from your head to your toes. Whether you suffer from headaches or have experienced a sports injury, we have the knowledge and skills to provide you with rapid solutions.
We are also experts in treating long-term problems such as arthritis, and can work with you to restore your confidence and general function. If you have any queries at all about how physiotherapy may benefit your problem, please do not hesitate in contacting us.
If all you need is some advice about your problem, we can give this over the phone so please give us a call.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the type of problem and its duration and will be discussed at your initial assessment. Here at North Cork Physiotherapy and Acupuncture Clinic we firmly believe that if your symptoms do not show any signs of improvement within three to four sessions, your management plan will need to be reassessed.
We strongly uphold ethical and professional practice and do not believe in continuing with treatment unless it is benefiting you! If you feel that you need further investigations, we will also do our best to refer you to an appropriate specialist within the area.
What will I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit will incorporate the initial assessment and treatment. A detailed history of your present condition and medical status will be taken, followed by a methodical and thorough clinical examination. The diagnosis of your presenting condition will be discussed and together your treatment plan will be established.
What shall I Wear?
During your initial assessment, the Physiotherapist will need to examine areas of your body adjacent to the problem area to ensure that nothing is missed that could be important. We ask you to dress appropriately. For neck, upper back and shoulder conditions a loose fitted top is required. For lower back, hip and leg conditions shorts are better. For Pilates classes clothing that is loose and comfortable to perform movements is ideal, generally classes are taken in your socks or barefeet.
By which methods do you accept payment?
We accept payment by credit/debit card, cash or cheque.
What does Chartered Physiotherapist mean?
The title “Chartered Physiotherapist” and the initials MISCP indicate that a physiotherapist is a member of the professional regulating body, the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. Chartered Physiotherapists have the high level of education, knowledge and experience needed to give a high quality and effective service to patients.
When you attend a Chartered Physiotherapist, you can be sure of a professional, scientific approach to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of your complaint and a therapist who has qualified with a University degree and who is committed to continuing education and research.
Chartered Physiotherapists are recognised and covered by VHI, Quinn Healthcare, Aviva and other health insurance schemes.
Do I have to be referred?
There are many ways that you may seek Physiotherapy treatment. You may be referred by your GP, however this is not necessary. The quickest and easiest way is to refer yourself! Just pick up the phone and contact the team and we shall ensure that you are seen as quickly as possible, at a time that is convenient to you.
We are open throughout the whole week and home visits may also be discussed if appropriate. For further information, please contact the team direct.
How often will I require treatment?
The number of treatments you require is difficult to generalise because it will depend on the presenting condition and diagnosis. The earlier we treat your condition the better the outcome and speedy recovery.
The average number of Physiotherapy treatment for clients is four.
How long is the first visit?
Initial assessment and Treatment will be approx. 45 mins, this may vary depending on your condition.
Can I claim on my insurance?
Our standard chartered physiotherapy fees are €50, but would you like to reduce your physiotherapy fees to under a €5 per treatment?
1. Recover costs of treatment from your medical insurance. Chartered Physiotherapy is eligible for refund with VHI, Quinn Medical, Aviva and the Hospital Saturday Fund among others (however we do advise you to check your policy in case of additional terms and conditions). Reimbursement rates vary depending on your policy but as much as €40 per treatment can be reclaimed.
2. Tax relief is available on all Chartered Physiotherapy costs, if you spend €50 on a standard physiotherapy consultation. You will be able to reclaim up to €40 back from your health insurance. The remaining €10 is subject to tax relief. If you’re paying tax at a rate of 42% you can receive €4.20 in tax relief.
Even if your medical insurance only allows you to reclaim the base level of €25 per treatment, you should only end up paying €14.50 per treatment.
